1911 “COMMANDER” in the MIGHTY 460 ROWLAND®

$427.00

The Mighty .460 Rowland® is now available as a Conversion for the more compact “COMMANDER”-style 1911. As with the Standard 5″ Gov’t Model, most high-quality Commander-style 1911’s are excellent platforms for this Conversion.
We have fitted your 460 Rowland Commander Conversion with our Tougher Buffer Recoil assembly and our 17 lb. flat-wound recoil spring. This is the tension that will work for most Commanders….but every gun and every shooter is a little different.
If you have a Carbon Steel Hand Gun then you may need our High Rate Recoil Spring Tuning Pack.
If you have a Stainless Steel Hand Gun then you may need our Low Rate Tuning Pack. Select these as ADD-ONS below.
If your gun runs the way you like with the 17 lb. recoil spring included with the Conversion then you may return any unopened tuning pack for a full refund.
As with all our Conversions, the Commander is available with your choice of either Black Cerakoted Compensator (included in the price) or a SS Compensator (add $25.30). Both are engraved on the business end in Deep Night Red with our signature “.460 Rowland®” trademark emblem.

Description

We have fitted your COMMANDER Conversion with our .460 Rowland®  Tougher Buffer Recoil System with a 17 lb. Flat-Wound Recoil Spring, our Standard Two-Port 1911 Compensator and a Match-grade Bushing.
.460 Rowland® 1911 COMMANDER  Conversions will sometimes take some tuning, but once they are running reliably you will have no trouble with your compact .460 Hand Cannon.

.460 Rowland® 1911 COMMANDER Tuning Instructions

Here’s what to do when you first take it out to shoot:

You will be trying to control slide speed using the distance your spent .45 ACP brass falls from your firing position to gauge that speed.  Too much and your breech face may overrun the stack in your magazine resulting in an increased Failure to Feed. Too little slide speed will result in an increased Failure to Eject.
  1. Start with the 17 lb. recoil spring that comes with the Conversion. Load and shoot .45 ACP ammunition.
  2. Adjust your recoil spring tension so that your spent .45 ACP brass falls within 2 or 3 feet of your firing position.
  3. Next: Load and shoot .460 Rowland® ammunition. If you get reliable ejection and your spent .460 Rowland® Brass falls less than 20″ from your firing position, you’re done!
  4. If you have already reduced your recoil spring tension to the point that .45 ACP ejection is about to be unreliable, and your .460 Rowland® Brass is still falling 20 feet away or more, then increase your recoil spring tension until your .460 Rowland® Brass falls as close to you as possible (5 or 10 feet would be ideal but 15 or 20 feet is acceptable).
  5. This last scenario is not very common but it does sometimes occur, generally with a SS gun. If it does, you will need to use one spring tension to shoot .460 Rowland® ammo and another to shoot your .45 ACP.
As a further remedy, you may wish to round and polish the top edge of your firing pin stop plate, polish the hammer where it engages the firing pin stop and polish your rails. Then start the tuning process again.
In the unlikely event you are still experiencing ejection or feeding problems, email or  give us a call and we will help you work it out.
We also offer Custom Fitting and Tuning as an Option. Select it when you place your order. In addition to the regular Commander Conversion Price, the Custom Fit Option is a $100 charge to have it individually fit and range tested in your gun. (You will need to ship us your gun, of course).

We recommend many High-Quality, Modern 1911 Commander-Style Pistols and offer a few criteria to help ensure you enjoy a successful Conversion:

  1. Fully heat-treated slide, with a Rockwell-C hardness of 36 or better (not spot treated, as was specified by the U.S. military during World War II and by many bargain 1911’s today)
  2. Standard barrel bushing (no “bull barrel configurations)
  3. Standard feed ramp (no “fully-ramped” guns)
  4. Not a “double-stack” (we have had very little success converting guns with DS magazines)

If you love your Commander, you will really love what Johnny can do for it: True .44 magnum performance in a compact, lightweight, high-capacity, easy-to-shoot, semi-automatic pistol. Enjoy twice the velocity and over three times the power of your standard .45 ACP.

In order to comply with some state requirements (e.g. California) you can have us Permanently Attach the Compensator to your barrel…..all this with no permanent alterations to your gun. And, remember, you can always fire standard .45 ACP through your Authentic .460 Rowland® Conversion.  (See our Special Note on Stainless Steel, below)

About the Extended Firing Pin

If you are experiencing primer blow-by it may be because you have an old-style .45 ACP firing pin assembly. Upgrade to our .460 Rowland® Extended Firing Pin to remedy these issues.
Some 1911’s (even some very expensive models) have stubbornly adhered to John Browning’s original design and not gone to the more desirable firing pin assembly.
The Extended Firing Pin solves the blow-by problem and has proven to be preferable when shooting some of the more modern high pressure cartridges like the 10 mm, .45 Super and the Mighty .460 Rowland®.
Longer, Thinner and Stronger to resolve primer blow-by problems in your:
  • 1911 5″ “Gov’t”
  • 1911 4.25″ “Commander”
It includes an Extra Power Firing Pin Spring. Compatible with your large or small diameter .45 ACP firing pin assembly.
Firing Pin Diameter: .067″

How to Ship Us Your Gun

There are three good ways to deliver your firearm to .460 Rowland LLC for Conversion…

ONE: Hand Deliver Your Gun to Us

  1. We will convert it and let you know when you may pick up your Authentic  or .960 Rowland® Hand Cannon.

TWO: Ship Your Gun via the USPS and Local Gun Shop or FFL

  1. Please insure your gun for it’s full replacement cost.
  2. Side-Loading USPS Medium Flat Rate Box (available at any post office free of charge) works well for most guns in their cases; a Top loading Medium Flat Rate Box will work for a gun not in a case.
  3. Your dealer will need the very simple US Postal Form 1508 (available on our website), a copy of our Federal Firearms License (“FFL”, also on our website) and a copy of  your dealer’s FFL (which they will supply).
  4. Your dealer will present both FFL’s to the postal agent and attach them to your package in a clear packing slip holder on the outside of the box (like the kind FedEx uses). Fold the FFL’s so that the blank side shows through the clear packing envelope on your package to avoid suggesting the contents.
  5. The postal agent will stamp and sign US Postal Form 1508 and give your dealer a copy for their records.

THREE: Ship Your Gun Directly to Us via FedEx Express or UPS Express.

  1. These carriers require handguns to be shipped 2nd Day air, so your cost for this option will be $75 to $125 depending upon where you are. Alaska and Hawaii will generally be at the high end. With this Direct Shipping you do not need to go through your local dealer and you will not use the postal form.
  2. Pack up your gun securely and present a copy of the .460 Rowland® FFL (see “Useful Links” below) to your shipper. There should be no markings on the box to indicate it is a gun. The FFL can be placed inside the box.
  3. Again:  Please insure your gun for its full replacement cost

 And that’s about it!

We will return your finished Conversion to your designated FFL for $18 plus Insurance or, if you have shipped your gun directly to us using Option 3 above then your return shipping cost will be at our FedEx cost with no additional charge. In either case Return Shipping charges will be added to your invoice when it is determined.

When Shipping a Gun always ensure that:

  1. The chamber is empty.
  2. You ship at least one magazine
  3. That there is no magazine in the gun itself.
  4. The chamber is empty.
  5. The magazine (s) you ship are empty.
  6. There is no ammunition in the box.
  7. The outside of the package is securely taped. Do NOT trust Government glue!
Our Unique and Proprietary Products are Often Copied but Never Duplicated, so Don’t be Fooled by Fraud…Look for our Federal Trademark Insignia, (“®”), to be sure!

2 reviews for 1911 “COMMANDER” in the MIGHTY 460 ROWLAND®

  1. Hello,

It was a pleasure to speak with you last week and I am looking forward to the kit for my Springfield 1911. Before I receive the product I can tell that I am dealing with a level of experience and professionalism that is rare today. I wanted to thank you for spending the time to field my questions and make suggestions regarding the functionality of the new kit.

    Thank you George B

  2. People ask why I deal only with 460Rowland, and the customer service is reason number two. The first is the quality of the equipment, but without the customer service, even the best quality isn’t always good enough. Thomas is the absolute best, most customer oriented person I’ve ever dealt with, bar none.
